It is reported that Indian Railways have generated INR 22970.37 crore of revenue earnings from commodity wise freight traffic during April to August 2009 as compared to INR 21499.21 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 6.84%.
As per report Railways carried 357.99 million tonnes of commodity wise freight traffic during April to August 2009 as compared to 336.00 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 6.54%. The Net Tonne Kilo Metres went up from 217292 million during April to August 2008 to 235946 million during April to August 2009 showing an increase of 8.58 per cent.
Out of the total earnings of INR 4695.45 crore from commodity wise freight traffic during the month of August 2009
1. INR 1706.48 crore came from transportation of 31.27 million tonnes of coal
2. INR 785.21 crore from 12.31 million tonnes of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic user
3. INR 409.49 crore from 7.36 million tonnes of cement
4. INR 320.02 crore from 2.99 million tonnes of food grains
5. INR 295.71 crore from 3.57 million tonnes of petroleum oil and lubricant
6. INR 268.05 crore from 2.55 million tonnes of Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points
7. INR 226.62 crore from 3.47 million tonnes of fertilizers
8. INR 76.29 crore from 1.03 million tonnes of raw material for steel plants except iron ore
9. INR 245.19 crore from 3.01 million tonnes by container service and 10. INR 362.39 crore from 5.66 million tonnes of other goods.
