ASSOCHAM identifies 12 focus industries in Tamil Nadu

According to Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India Vision 2020 a study on state’s industry prospects, Tamil Nadu should focus on 12 crucial areas to increase its gross domestic product to over INR 700000 crore by 2020.

The focus sectors include IT, tourism, small and medium enterprises, power, health tourism, ports, food processing, film industry, special economic zone, leather, biotech, advance research and disaster management. The economy should have a compound annual growth rate of more than ten per cent to achieve the target.

Mr Sajjan Jindal president of ASSOCHAM said that “IT needs attention in Tamil Nadu since it has emerged as a hub for software in the last decade and the production here touched a high of INR 28,490 crore during 2007-08. To sustain the growth, the state should create a knowledge-driven ecosystem, leveraging entrepreneurship and promoting socially inclusive growth.”
