The state energy company Sonatrach has announced plans to invest EUR 45 billion in new oil and gas projects in the coming 5 years with several billion euros' worth of new projects announced in the past few weeks alone. Most of these projects are focused on export, transport and treatment.
These include a EUR 1 billion gas pipeline project to boost the capacity of the Hassi R'Mel field to 9 billion cubic meters a year, eventually supplying a new liquefied natural gas terminal and the planned Galsi pipeline to Italy. The contract was awarded to a consortium including Saipem and Petrojet.
A further EUR 1.1 billion project was awarded to JGC Corporation and a consortium led by ABB/Sarpi to develop the Gassi Touil field, while a EUR 770 million contract for a new gas treatment facility at the Hamra gas field was also awarded to Canadian contractors SNC Lavalin.
