BNamericas reported that Chilean industry suppliers association Proveedores Mineros del Sur will start looking for Peruvian counterparts to partner with them and address both local and other Latin American markets under a single brand.
The report quoted Mr Orlando Castillo CEO of Prominsur as saying that recently formed Prominsur is a project driven by Chile's manufacturers and service exporters association Asexma the technological development and capital assets corporation CBC and mining suppliers group Minnova Minexport with the support of state development agency Corfo. The project aims at creating a common Chilean brand for suppliers of the mining industry and to position them in foreign markets.
Mr Castillo said that "We see today that there is a great opportunity to complement efforts for business development in both the Chilean and Peruvian mining industries, as both countries' sectors have huge investment portfolios for the next five years.”
He added that "The idea is to create strategic alliances between Chilean and Peruvian suppliers in order to take advantage of the opportunities in the mining sector with a focus on Latin America. I think this association will be the driver to facilitate the development of both industries."
Prominsur currently has 11 member companies contributing with direct investment in the project, which completed the design stage two weeks ago and now is working on starting the positioning of the brand both in Chile and Peru.
Association board member Alejandra Molina told BNamericas that Prominsur will be present in several mining related activities in Peru over this year to make the project known in the country and start generating interest among suppliers.
The project has also had the support of Chile's export promotion agency ProChile.
