TATA Steel to commission Kalinganagar plant in 2014-15

BL reported that TATA Steel hopes to get control of land in Orissa shortly for starting work on its proposed 6 million tonnes per annum Kalinganagar project.

Mr HM Nerurkar ED of TATA Steel while taking to newspersons said that “We should get the land within two to three months, or may be even earlier. We have complete faith in the Orissa Government which is trying its best to make the land available to us.”

Mr Nerurkar said that the work on the project would start as soon as the land is made available to the company adding that the plant construction will take at least three and a half years.

He further added that “We have set a target of 2014-15 for commissioning the plant.”

About 3,400 acres had been earmarked for the TATA Steel’s Kalinganagar project and the land, even as it continued to be in the company’s name, could not be made available to company to start work due to local agitation.
