ArcelorMittal Jharkhand project output to start in 2014

According to Mr Sudhir Maheshwari a member of ArcelorMittal's management board, ArcelorMittal expects to start producing steel from its planned Jharkhand plant project in 2014.

Mr Maheshwari during the company's investor day to be held simultaneously in London and New York said that iron ore and coal mines have been allotted to ArcelorMittal's Jharkhand project in east India, but mines at its Orissa project have yet to be fully allotted.

The presentation said that in the case of the Orissa project, the coal block has already been allotted but application for mines has been delayed and are still being processed.

The plants are planned to have an annual capacity of 12 million tonnes each. ArcelorMittal had considered a combined investment of USD 20 billion to USD 25 billion in two steel plants in Jharkhand and Orissa.
