Last call for joining Chinese steel conference on September 17

We draw attention of our readers that the upcoming MySteel conference at Shanghai is just 7 days away and interested persons are requested to decide today for their participation in this event as VISA and other formalities require at least a week.

Just to highlight the importance and relevance of this event for steel players in India, we have summarized the situation as under

China with its monthly production of about 51 million tonnes of crude steel in August 2009 and 317 million tonnes during January to August 2009 accounts for 49% of global crude steel. This increase in production was well supported by Chinese domestic steel consumption, fuelled by mega stimulus packages in the first half of 2009, but was hit badly in the month of August resulting in weakening sentiments and major correction in prices.

This has resulted in inventory pile ups across all products in China in last 2 to 3 months, putting immense pressure on Chinese mills, which continued their production as the steel making costs still permitted them. Now Chinese mills have to find alternative outlets to keep their inventories in control and sell excess availability. Thus it is natural that most of them have started to look overseas to find buyers.

Just to refresh your memory, Chinese mills were very aggressive in the first 9 months of 2008 but were later forced to reduce steel exports due to trade barrier issues and off course recession hit global demand. China exported 59.23 million tonnes down by 5.5% YoY as compared to 62.65 million tonnes in 2007. Month wise steel export volumes since the beginning of 2007 are illustrated below to give you the trend and the true potential of Chinese steel mills and sellers.

In million tonnes

As the Chinese domestic steel demand was booming during the first half of 2009, their realizations were higher in domestic sales as compared to exports and they stayed away from exporting. But the global levels witnessed improvement in last few months making exports lucrative for Chinese mills, especially after major price correction in their domestic market in the month of August.

Off late, Chinese mills have become aggressive in clinching export orders by offering competitive pricing as compared to traditional sources including Ukrainian and Russian mills to some of the markets. As reported earlier, a Chinese mill has booked two orders for HRC with Indian buyers recently at CNF prices lower by more than USD 50 per tonne as compared to CIS mills. Chinese mills have also returned to European market with attractive offers after a gap of almost 12 months to exhibit their aggressiveness born out of their sheer need.

Thus, it appears that Chinese steel mills, who have joined the band wagon, are likely to be major supplier of steel in coming times globally. Probably it is an opportune time for serious players to renew or develop contacts with Chinese steel mills and sellers.

SteelGuru as official media partner invites you to the “2009 International Steel Forum and China Steel Trade Fair” which is organized by Mysteel at the Rainbow Hotel at Shanghai in China September 17th to 18th 2009.

As China leads the recovery from the global financial crisis, this forum presents an opportunity for global delegates to learn the first hand developments that will shape the future of China's steel export market. Will China give further incentives to its steel exports? Will China steel exports see a major come back in the rest of 2009? Answers to such intriguing questions will be found in speeches given by senior China government officials and scholars.

The steel trade fair, slated for the afternoon of September 18th is FREE OF CHARGE and open to all delegates who need to showcase their product mix, sales capabilities or material and machinery requirements with an eye to initiating new business ties.

The conference is being attended by almost all the major Chinese steel players, both mills and trading houses, and thus would help you network with them at right time. Delegates will be able to meet face to face with major Chinese steel mills and traders, who used to play hard to get but are now more anxious than ever to seek overseas buyers.

Our three previous events held in 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively, proved a successful series with the most recent one attracting some 400 delegates from home and abroad. The conference of this year is to offer you the following fresh benefits
1. Learn China government’s upcoming moves on steel exports
2. Gain experts' insights into China steel sector
3. Meet face to face with Chinese steel mills and traders with competitive supplies;
4. Get familiar with the pattern of China steel exports;
5. Get a chance to promote your company image and display product mix on the steel trade fair.

The conference starts on September 17th 2009, with option of registration on September 16th 2009, and extends to the first half on September 18th 2009, after which there is an option for free exhibition.

SteelGuru delegates are being offered discount of USD 200 over the standard charges of USD 1200 per delegate as conference fees (net USD 1000). The hotel charges at rainbow Hotel, where the event is taking place, are about USD 75 per day.

But the time is really short and you have to move quickly, in fact immediately.

Send us your confirmation to participate in the event along with your passport details, so that we can organize invitation for obtaining VISA ASAP and send you an invoice for making payment.

As, there is also a possibility of organizing a visit to 10 million tonne plus steel plant near Shanghai, do not finalize your program, if you so decide to avail this opportunity.
