Indian mineral production update for June 2009

The mineral production from mining and quarrying sector in June 2009 was higher by 0.07% compared to that of the preceding month. However the mineral sector has shown a positive growth of 7.27% during the current financial year April to June 2009-10 as compared to that of the previous year. The mineral production in June 2009 was higher by 15.47% as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.

The total value of mineral production excluding atomic & minor minerals in the country during June 2009 was INR 8803 crore.

Coal was the highest at INR 3158 crore
Iron ore INR 1980 crore
Petroleum (crude) INR 1533 crore
Natural gas (utilized) INR 1081 crore
Lignite INR 254 crore
Limestone INR 214 crore

These six minerals together contributed about 93% of the total value of mineral production in June 2009.

Production level of important minerals in June 2009 were
Coal 39.7 million tonnes
Lignite 3.1 million tones
Natural gas (utilized) 3472 million cubic meters
Petroleum (crude) 2.8 million tones
Bauxite 989,000 tonnes
Chromite 381,000 tonnes
Copper concentrate 8,000 tonnes
Gold 164 kilograms
Iron ore 19 million tonnes
Lead concentrate 12,000 tonnes
Manganese ore 182,000 tonnes
Zinc conc. 112,000 tones
Apatite & phosphorite 135,000 tonnes
Dolomite 381,000 tonnes
Limestone 18.2 million tonnes
Magnesite 24,000 tonnes

In June 2009, the output of Gold increased by 25.19%
Chromite by 24.75%
Lead concentrate by 18.38%
Zinc concentrate by 15.33%
Copper concentrate by 10.73%
Magnesite by 10.28%
Natural gas (utilized) by 4.99%
Dolomite by 2.39%

However the production of limestone decreased by 0.94%
Petroleum (crude) by 1.08%
Coal by 2.38%
Iron ore by 3.93%
Lignite by 5.47%
Apatite & phosphorite by 5.57%
Manganese ore by 6.6%
Bauxite by14.91%
