Agitating villagers in POSOC's proposed plant site near Paradip in Orissa wanted a good rehabilitation and resettlement package to enable the South Korean steel major to set up its mega steel mill there.
Mr AK Meena Revenue Divisional Commissioner central division said that a large number of villagers made this demand before.
He told PTI that "There was no opposition to my visit. People sought a lucrative R & R package adding that many families facing displacement were either farmers or fishermen.”
Mr Meena's visit to the area was significant in view of the proposed RPDAC meeting scheduled to be held this month. Though RPDAC for the INR 51,000 crore POSOC project was constituted in 2006, it had never met so far.
